Gary Shore

Director at Anonymous Content
Los Angeles, United States

About me

With existing representation by Knucklehead in the UK, Shore now teams up with Knucklehead’s newly launched US office in Los Angeles.

Dublin-born Gary Shore has carved out a career as a high-end commercials director for major brands such as Guinness, Samsung, Gatorade, Adidas, Guinness, EDF, UGG and most recently Game of War: Fire Age with Kate Upton. In 2014, he made his feature debut with Dracula Untold, an epic retelling of the origin story of Dracula, the first movie of Shore’s three picture deal with Universal.

Previously repped by Anonymous Content in the US, Shore shows his continued support for Knucklehead now that it has officially opened its first stateside outpost, led by Executive Producer Cathleen Kisich.

Matthew Brown in London speaks on behalf of himself and fellow UK EP Tim Katz, saying, “Gary’s reel shows his brilliance for creating feature film-level visuals within the commercial space. We’re extremely excited he has decided to join us in America, as we’ve already had so much success together in the UK."

“The Knucklehead team is beyond thrilled to rep Gary Shore for commercial work globally and are delighted that he has joined forces with us in the US,” remarks Kisich.

Sector Experience

Positions

Gary Shore is a visual storyteller who has directed commercials for major global brands such as Gatorade, adidas, EDF and UGG, and collaborated with top agencies including TBWA/Chiat/Day Los Angeles, M&C Saatchi, 180 Amsterdam, Creature London, Young Euro RSCG Dublin and Leo Burnett India.Shore’s graphic visual style stems in part from his talent as an illustrator. Always a big comic book fan growing up, Shore spent much time drawing and collecting his favorite works and even considered becoming a professional comic book artist. He passed up art school for The National Film School in Dublin, and got his big break after graduating in 2006, when he won the Royal Television Society Award for Best Student Drama for his graduation film, The Draft. That same year, Shore was honored with the prestigious Young Director Award nomination at the Cannes International Advertising Festival.
In 2010, Shore was named by The Black List for Aspiring Filmmakers, a list of a dozen filmmakers to watch determined by studio execs, producers and the like. The next year, Shore was featured in Saatchi & Saatchi’s prestigious New Directors Showcase at Cannes for his Cup of Tears trailer, a film he also wrote that led to a 3-picture deal with Universal.
Shore’s feature film debut, Universal Pictures’ Dracula Untold, hit theatres in Fall 2014. Starring Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper, and Sarah Gadon, Dracula Untold reveals the dark origin story of its title character, Count Dracula, through the tale of Vlad the Impaler, who uses dark powers to protect his family and kingdom.
In 2014, Shore directed 3 :60 spots for the best-selling Game of War: Fire Age, featuring supermodel Kate Upton reprising her in-game role as the goddess Athena. Shore lures us into a visually stunning medieval world complete with epic battles and fantastical dragons, inciting a legion of RPG heroes to eagerly accept Upton’s invitation to play.
Shore’s influences range from filmmaking greats such as Akira Kurosawa, David Lean and Steven Spielberg to illustrator Dave McKean, Japanese Anime and music videos of the 1990s. He approaches his projects—short and long form—as both director and craftsman, creating his own matte paintings, storyboards and concept design. He often works on green screen, enabling the control of landscapes much like the style driving his comic book and illustrative influences.
