Story | New York, NY (September 29, 2015) — Actresses Jillian Bell (Workaholics, 22 Jump Street, The Night Before), Angela Kinsey (The Office, Hulu’s Hotwives), and a talented cast star in Hamburger Hummus, an outrageous original scripted comedy web series that launches all seven episodes today online on Viacom/MTV, Nativo and TriVu Networks, in addition to YouTube. Directed by Jay Karas (Workaholics, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Hamburger Hummus shadows a group of All-American bloggers at a fictional conference in Tel Aviv, Israel. Their interests across technology, beauty, environmentalism and shameless one-night stands lead to a bounty of ‘Clark Griswold’-like ‘fish out of water’ moments. “The idea of naive American characters navigating through Israel provides an inherent backdrop for comedy, and the amazing cast—almost all of whom had never been—really embraced the experience,” says Jay Karas. “This was actually my first time in Israel as well, so in many ways I was able to see it through the same lens as the characters. It was incredibly enriching and fun!” Hamburger Hummus, a project of the New Venture Fund, is a comic web series that features little-known aspects of life in Israel. The series was conceived by SS+K, a creative advertising agency best known for their award-winning work for clients including HBO Go, Honest Tea and President Obama in 2008 and 2012. “Israel is a great stage for a comedy about people meeting for the first time and getting into that fun trouble that only happens when you’re overseas,” says Bobby Hershfield, Chief Creative Officer, Partner at SS+K. “It comes with its own surprises that add to the irreverent mashup of some rubes from Middle America meeting up with contemporary Israelis.” |
